OUR HISTORY
Our story begins in 1981 with founding pastors, Terry and Jayne Calkin. The baton of leadership was passed to Jonathan and Robyn Dove in October 2014.
Founding pastors Terry and Jayne Calkin began meeting with a group of 10 in a home in Ladies Mile, Ellerslie in 1981 and the first service of our church was held on 5 April 1981. The baton of leadership was passed to Jonathan and Robyn Dove in October 2014.
The church met in various locations, from homes to Alexandra Park to the Town Hall, until God—in His goodness—enabled the purchase of this amazing site, here in Marewa Road, Greenlane, in September 1988.
Our name has changed over time from Greenlane Christian Fellowship to Greenlane Christian Centre (GCC) and, most recently, to Gracecity.
In 2022, Gracecity became a multisite church with the adoption of Summit Church in East Auckland. Summit Church was a church plant launched in 2004, as BotanyLife Community Church, by Brad and Rochelle Carr.
From the early days when billboard signs, which were visible from the motorway, raised intrigue, to the 15 years of Christmas Drive Thru’s, to our expansive work in global mission, the story of the gospel has been proclaimed. And this gospel is still central to everything we do. We believe the mission of God is in the hands of ordinary people. We believe the good news of Jesus has the potential to change everything — our lives, our homes, our places of work and our city.
